what a fun day today has been, NOT!!!for some unknown reason our well went dry about 5 this morning...evidently the water level in the cistern had dropped too low, which caused the pump to pull air instead of water...the end result was zero water, period...a couple of hours of futzing around led us to this conclusion...a friend of ours is using our flatbed trailer, so we had no way to take the 350 gallon water tank to the city public well to fill it, and he was in the middle of something, and would not be able to bring it back for a couple of hours, which actually ended up being more like 6 hours...so off i went to see if i could borrow some water from a neighbor...they were happy to let me have some water, which we needed to flush the toilets and other necessities, only to find after lugging 100 lbs of water into the bathroom that our toilets were the type that can't flush on a full tank alone...sigh....so off my girlfriend's dad and i trundle to the public well, carting every container possible to haul water back to try and fill the cistern...it took us about an hour to fill several miscelaneous coolers, jugs, buckets etc...probably 200 gallons or so....then spent 20 minutes making a 5 minute drive at a snails pace to avoid spilling water on the trip...finally after pouring the majority of it in the cistern, which just filled it enough, we got the pump running properly and had water, though just for emergency use...about then the friend shows up, we load the tank on the truck, and go off to fill it and then empty it into the cistern...elapsed time for this, another 90 minutes...it did the trick though, and we have water again...of course then i had to go do the shopping which i had planned to do hours earlier, and am now whooped...just another day in rural paradise.
